Leopold Infeld was born in Cracow in 1898. He studied physics at the Jagiellonian University where in 1921 he obtained the PhD degree. He collaborated with Max Born and later worked with Albert Einstein in Princeton. In 1950 he returned back to Poland and settled in Warsaw. With Wojciech Rubinowicz organized the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the University of Warsaw.
